MINI-GRANT PROGRAM

NOTICE TO ALL 4th-8th GRADE TEACHERS

Does your school budget forbid you from starting a new project? Here's your chance! There is money available to you for integrating agriculture in your classroom.

All 4th-8th grade educators are welcome to apply. Florida Farm Bureau Agriculture in the Classroom (FFB-AITC) is pleased to offer a Mini-Grant program for educators during the 2003-04 school year. This FFB-AITC grant is a public/private partnership serving 4th-8th grade education with a goal of helping to increase the understanding of agriculture among students and educators. The program is administered through the Florida Farm Bureau, Florida's oldest and largest general farm organization.

A total of up to $7,500 may be awarded in mini-grants throughout the state by Florida Farm Bureau during the year.

INTEGRATING AGRICULTURE HAS
NO BOUNDARIES

This FFB-AITC Mini-Grant program offers cash awards to help educators more effectively integrate agriculture into their curriculum. Agriculture has no subject area boundaries, and entries are encouraged in:

* Social Studies *Math
* Language Arts *Science
* Environmental Education
* Any other subject area or combination of areas that effectively integrate key agricultural principles i.e., production, promotion, etc.


UP TO $250 AVAILABLE TO EDUCATORS

As a practicing educator, you can be part of the FFB-AITC Mini-Grant program for the 2003-04 school year. Grants of up to $250 will be awarded for budgeted expenses to provide an original and creative activity or program. You may not need that much... $50, $85 or $100 may be enough.

The deadline for applications is October 1, 2003. Grant winners will be notified by October 30. State objectives and goals clearly, and explain how the grant will help you achieve them. The project must be completed by the end of the 2003-04 school year. A final brief report is due upon completion of the project.

Innovation and an inter-disciplinary approach are important judging criteria. Extensive student involvement and subsequent effect on the students are very important to FFB-AITC. Field trips and assemblies must be linked to classroom learning objectives, and applications should outline specific pre and post activities. Florida Farm Bureau-Agriculture in the Classroom reserves the right to deny applications based on quality, quantity and intent.
