Florida Farm Bureau Names Newspersons of the Year

(ORLANDO, FLA.) - Emerald Kinsley, publisher of the Madison County Carrier and Madison Enterprise Recorder, and Susan Salisbury, a reporter for the Palm Beach Post, were honored as "Newspersons of the Year" by Florida Farm Bureau Federation. The awards were presented at the Federation's 60th Annual Meeting Oct. 26-29 at Orlando. The two were honored for outstanding coverage of Florida's agriculture industry.

"These individuals have produced outstanding work that keeps their readership abreast of developments in agriculture, an industry that is of increasing economic importance to the state," said Rod Hemphill, director of public relations for Florida Farm Bureau, the state's largest general-interest agricultural organization. "They were nominated by the presidents of their respective county Farm Bureaus."

Kinsley and the Greene Publishing Company of Madison were recognized in the weekly newspaper category. In making the nomination, Madison County Farm Bureau President Howell Waring said, "We are fortunate to have local media that will cover every Farm Bureau event that we are involved with." He also praised Kinsley's coverage of agriculture in the county.

Salisbury and the Palm Beach Post were recognized in the daily newspaper category. President Mark Sodders of the Western Palm Beach Farm Bureau said, "Ms. Salisbury has worked tirelessly to educate and inform the public of agricultural issues. She has reported on everything from citrus canker to human interest stories. She is diligent in reporting accurately and fairly."

The Florida Farm Bureau Federation is the state's largest general-interest agricultural association with more than 143,000 member-families statewide. Headquartered in Gainesville, the Federation is an independent, non-profit agricultural organization and is not associated with any arm of the government. More information about the convention and Florida Farm Bureau is available on the organization's website, http://FloridaFarmBureau.org.
