How
Committee Members Are Selected
1.
All nominees must be active Farm Bureau members who produce the
commodity they are nominated to represent.
2.
At least five appointments will be made from the top ten producing
counties.
3.
Appointments are for a one-year term.
4. There will be special effort to achieve a geographic and/or
production area balance in the appointments.
5. In those situations where specialization is a factor within
the general commodity group, emphasis will be placed on achieving
a committee balance so that each specialty within the commodity
area will be represented.
6. The Chair will be appointed by the State President.
7. Additional appointments may be made from names outside of the
county nominations.

Farm Bureau Federation Advisory Committee Procedures
As a volunteer member
of an advisory committee, you will provide direct input into the
development and implementation of Florida Farm Bureau policy. You
have been selected because of your knowledge and skills relating
to the commodity which you produce. Special attention has also been
given to geographical areas to provide balanced representation on
each committee.
Meetings
There are, generally,
two scheduled meetings per year for each advisory committee, one
in the late summer and one in the spring. These meetings will be
held either at the Florida Farm Bureau office in Gainesville or
at selected locations throughout the state. Additional meetings
may be called if needed.
You will receive two
meeting notices. The first, mailed two weeks in advance of the meeting,
will contain a tentative agenda, as well as the date, location,
and time. About one week prior to the meeting you will receive a
second notice in the form of a postcard. Please be sure to return
the postcard, as it gives us a head count for meals, copies of materials,
etc.
Your attendance is crucial
to the success of these meetings. If for some reason you cannot
attend, please notify the staff person
for your committee that you will not be present.
Expenses
The Florida Farm Bureau
Board of Directors has approved the reimbursement of mileage for
State Advisory Committee members attending called meetings. Lunch
is also provided.
Committee meetings usually
begin at 10:00 a.m. In most cases, this provides adequate travel
time to drive in that morning and not miss another day from the
farm. If the distance you travel to attend an advisory meeting requires
that you arrive the night before, contact the committee staff person
prior to the meeting and arrangements for lodging will be made.
You will be reimbursed for pre-approved lodging costs.
Non-voting members should
receive mileage expenses from the agency or company they represent.
Non-voting members should notify their committee staff person If
employer funding is not available for expenses.
Term of Office
Committee members are
appointed by the president of the Florida Farm Bureau Federation
subject to approval by the state board of directors. Each appointment
is for a one year term, January 1 through December 31. Committee
members may serve consecutive appointments or terms.
